What We Do

Family Law

Family Law, which is also referred to as Matrimonial Law, is an area of law that focuses on family matters and domestic relations. Family Law is unique because while having to guide our clients through the legal and at times life change conflict situation, we are also sensitive to the needs and requirements of simultaneously strengthening the role of the family. At Cunningham Law, we do more than just assess and advise you on your legal situation. We are here to help you  make an informed decision by making you aware of options available for your specific circumstances. We are also here to help you through one of the most stressful experiences in life by being highly responsive to your sensitive and complex emotional needs. We understand the pain in family relationship breakdown and focus on solving your conflict with compassion. At the same time, we are assertive and highly skilled advocates to advance our clients’ case. We strive to be responsive in the most appropriate way. It is very rewarding and heart-warming to know we’ve helped you through such a difficult time.

Corporate & Commercial

Corporate and Commercial Law forms a body of law practice that is very closely related because they both deal with  the legal aspects of commerce. Corporate Law mainly focuses on internal workings of commerce – the creation and maintenance of corporations and corporate structures that must be in place prior to engaging in commerce transactions, including the buying and selling of shares and the assets of corporations. Corporate Law sets the standard on how the various parts of the corporation (shareholders, directors, employees and other stakeholders such as customers) interacts with one another both from an internal and external perspective. Commercial Law mainly focuses on many of the external workings of commerce such as the rights, duties, relationships and conduct of buyers and sellers engaged in commerce, merchandising and trade in both the private and public sector.

Sound legal guidance and advice can be critical to the success of your company regardless of whether you are a small start-up or an established multi-national organization. Wills & Estates

Wills & Estate Law serves a variety of important purposes upon the death of a loved one. It serves as the last word of the deceased as to how they want their final wishes to be handled with respect to their funeral, guardian(s) to raise their children and how their property and possessions are to be distributed. At Cunningham Law, we understand that the preparation and execution of a will can make you  apprehensive but it can be of great comfort because it helps to minimize and potentially avoid the stress and worry we all experience when a loved one passes on. Being proactive, in organizing your personal affairs, for after death, can potentially save your family and friends enormous problems and expenses. At Cunningham Law, we help you with determining how your estate will be distributed between and among your heirs rather than letting the government make that determination because of the absence of a will. The drafting of your will ensures that the executor has clear directions of the fair and equitable distribution of your possessions and assets and ensures that all parties involved have their interest protected.

At Cunningham law, we have many years of employment law experience both as a representative for the employee and the employer. If you are an employee and have been terminated wrongfully and without sufficient notice, it is important that you seek independent legal advice immediately. Employment law is complex and accepting, uncontested, the proposed “severance package” may not be in your best interest. Furthermore, without independent legal counsel, you will be at a serious disadvantage in determining how to best respond to the “Release” request but more importantly determining if the proposed compensation is both fair and legal. At Cunningham Law, we understand that being wrongfully dismissed can be a traumatic emotional experience.  We will help you navigate through the harsh reality of wrongful dismissals and we will fight for your rights to a fair and equitable outcome.

At Cunningham Law, we also understand the need for employers to ensure that when engaging employees or potential employees that sound legal advice is equally important. At Cunningham Law, we will guide you through the process to ensure that from a legal perspective you are protected. Whether the requirement is for a new employment contracts or termination of existing contracts and offering severance packages, we will ensure that you are compliant and meet the minimum statutory and common law obligations.
